Classical Education...

“Because the classical educator believes in a real world that gives up ordered knowledge of itself, he teaches the student how to get that knowledge. The seven liberal arts were quite deliberately developed for precisely that reason. Believing that we can know truth, and believing that truth sets us free, classical educators spent thousands of years refining the tools of truth-seeking that were used from the beginning of time, but were first codified by Aristotle."

Keeping Penmanship Alive

While we do not focus on our handwriting/cursive lessons EVERY day of our homeschool year, we do have curriculum that we incorporate:
Handwriting Without Tears has been an easy-going curriculum that we use to slowly keep penmanship clear and neat.  Even though this workbook is for 3rd graders, we have been pecking away at it for two years now.  The main reason for the slow progress is due to our inclusion of Prescripts made  by Classical Conversations.

PreScripts® Cursive Letters and Coloring: Medieval to Modern World History

(Cursive handwriting practice that coordinates with Cycle 2 history)

We own all three Cycles of Prescripts, but since my children are no longer in a Classical Conversations community (which would require students to work on a specific Cycle depending on the year in question), we use our CC materials randomly (from Cycle 1, 2, and 3) to refresh memory work, provide independent learning while I work with a child one-on-one, and to help develop parts of the mind that are often dormant during other types of curriculum usage.

Brandy Ferrell has wonderful links to resources that I have used in the past to promote extra practice at various levels of handwriting and cursive lessons.
