Classical Education...

“Because the classical educator believes in a real world that gives up ordered knowledge of itself, he teaches the student how to get that knowledge. The seven liberal arts were quite deliberately developed for precisely that reason. Believing that we can know truth, and believing that truth sets us free, classical educators spent thousands of years refining the tools of truth-seeking that were used from the beginning of time, but were first codified by Aristotle."

DIY Mask Making: Videos, Patterns, and Information

Do you work best watching videos on how to do something?
If so, watch the SEW and NO-SEW Tutorial VIDEOS HERE

There are varying levels of time and skill needed when creating a face-covering depending on the mask style you choose.  Ultimately, no matter what, WEAR A MASK!  Just wear something to keep the air-born droplets transferring the virus from person-to-person OUT OF YOUR NOSE AND THROAT.
When this all started and the news reported that only medical professionals needed a mask, I knew right then to go and purchase insertable filters for cotton masks. I knew that I could make fabric masks, but I wanted that little bit of extra protection with a 5-layered carbon filter (PM 2.5) to put inside my fabric mask.

Remember, “any face covering is better than none, especially if worn by a person who has the virus but doesn’t know it. While a simple face covering can reduce the spread of coronavirus by blocking outgoing germs from coughs or sneezes of an infected person, experts say there is more variation in how much homemade masks might protect the wearer from incoming germs, depending on the fit and quality of the material used” (Tara Parker-Pope).

All of us should be wearing masks, especially since we do not know if we are carriers of the virus or not.  WEARING A MASK IS NECESSARY PROTECTION WHEN OUTSIDE YOUR HOME. Therefore, please choose a mask style to get started with, and as you have more time, make more for yourself.  You will want to throw your mask into the washer as soon as you re-enter the home, and so numerous styles and designs will help you stay safe and ready to go the next time you walk out your front door.  Keep safe!

Non-Fabric Face Mask Options
Peter Tsai, the materials scientist who invented the electrostatic charging technology that works in N95 masks recommends shop towels as an alternative face-covering source. He says they can be washed and reused 2 or 3 times. Scroll about halfway down this article for the information.

There are good articles showing the effectiveness of various materials, but this woman did her own high-quality testing (article here). Again, shop towels proved highly effective.
