Classical Education...

“Because the classical educator believes in a real world that gives up ordered knowledge of itself, he teaches the student how to get that knowledge. The seven liberal arts were quite deliberately developed for precisely that reason. Believing that we can know truth, and believing that truth sets us free, classical educators spent thousands of years refining the tools of truth-seeking that were used from the beginning of time, but were first codified by Aristotle."

Christian Women in the Family

The Role of Women in the Family

Part 1 of a Multi-post Examination of Women and Christianity

We've been homeschooling our children for many years now.  As with most homeschool parents, the first few years, you seek out others who are taking this same path of education at home to get support, guidance, and advice on this journey.

Even though our primary reason for homeschooling was to include a God-first focus in our daily lives and education, there were other, smaller aspects of public, corporate schooling that we were opposed to subjecting our children to on a daily basis.  Those aspects are a discussion for another post.  Today, I want to discuss the groups that homeschoolers go to for support and how, OFTEN, the Christian walk and viewpoint is severely skewed and bloated into a monstrous enemy of women.  OK.  I know.  That might be a little bit hard to follow but bear with me here.

One of the first groups we joined for homeschool fellowship included both secular and religious homeschoolers.  When asked "WHY" we chose to homeschool and upon hearing "for religious reasons," women would begin to ask for clarification on our faith in a God and a religious viewpoint that minimizes women and their role in the family.

WHAT???  I was shocked!  Minimizes the role of women in the family??  Not my God!  Not my religious doctrine!

Dig a Little Deeper...

How much do you know about the role of women in Christianity?  What does the Bible say about the role of women in the family, the Church (big C, not little c), and the world?

Conduct research to investigate these things for yourself until my next post that delves deeper into the role of women in the family—especially by homeschooling.
