Classical Education...

“Because the classical educator believes in a real world that gives up ordered knowledge of itself, he teaches the student how to get that knowledge. The seven liberal arts were quite deliberately developed for precisely that reason. Believing that we can know truth, and believing that truth sets us free, classical educators spent thousands of years refining the tools of truth-seeking that were used from the beginning of time, but were first codified by Aristotle."

God’s plan for women and men is different and good...

Click for Article

Want to learn more? Read the article to see the encompassing Scriptures as a whole and to see that "we can see God’s plan for women and men is different and good. When women decide to leave their God-ordained ministry in their homes and pursue careers instead, they are actually taking the man’s curse upon themselves. Yes, there are exceptions but these don’t negate what God’s perfect will is for us. As believers in Jesus Christ, we do our best to obey Him and leave the results with Him!"

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Prayers to START and END the Day

A prayer book called The Primer was first published on May 29, 1545 and authorized by King Henry VIII. It contains psalms, prayers, and “offices,” or special “matin” (morning) and “evensong” (evening) prayers. Here are a couple of excerpts from that collection:

A PRAYER AT YOUR UPRISING: O Lord, Jesus Christ, who is the very bright sun of the world, ever rising, never falling, who, with your wholesome look, engenders, preserves, nourishes, and makes joyful all things that are in heaven and earth; shine favorably, I beseech You, on my spirit so that the night of sins and mists of errors might be driven away by Your inward light….Amen.

A PRAYER BEFORE YOU GO TO BED: … I beseech You in Your bountiful goodness, O Lord, to forgive me in whatever ways I have offended You this day and to receive me under Your protection this night, so that I may rest in quietness both of body and soul. Grant my eyes sleep, but let my heart watch perpetually for You….to whom be honor, praise, and glory forever. Amen.

Protecting Minority Religions in the US

On the 6th day of June in 1768, a trial was held in Fredericksburg, Virginia, at which a man, John Waller, along with several other Baptists, stood accused of preaching in public. Since the Anglican church was the official state religion in many American colonies before the Revolution, other denominations were often legally prohibited from preaching in public. This is why the framers of the Bill of Rights later included the “separation of church and state” clause: to protect minority religions.

The American Narcissist PART 4

PART 4

Aug 27, 2014 - Have you been sitting around, asking yourself the following questions? “Why does it take so long to heal from this heartache?”, “Why can't ...

The American Narcissist PART 3

PART 3

How do we handle dealing with the narcissists in our lives?  With grace, compassion, and distance.  After all, there is nothing we can do to change their views, ways, or attitudes.  Only the external force of God can do that.  While it is important to seek out knowledge as to how these people got this way, to this extreme, this is their lifestyle.  Narcissists use those around them--their children, spouse, co-workers, or even church-goers--to secure their place on high.

"Sociopath:" Sociopaths Are Different from Psychopaths

How Sociopaths Are Different from Psychopaths
Both are forms of antisocial personality disorder
By Marcia Purse | Medically reviewed by a board-certified physician
Updated November 13, 2018

"Sociopath" is a term people use, often arbitrarily, to describe someone who is apparently without conscience. In most cases, it's a description blithely tossed out to label a person as being either hateful or hate-worthy.

BIG "C" versus LITTLE "c"

from The New Dictionary of Biblical Theology

Although the church is often thought to be a human institution, a social arrangement to facilitate the interests and mission of like-minded people, as indeed it is, the Bible presents it as primarily a consequence of the character and purposes of the trinitarian God. Its origins lie in God’s desire to have a people of his own (Deut. 7:6). It is a community of those who acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord (1 Cor. 12:3). It is a fellowship where the Holy Spirit lives (1 Cor. 3:16), directing and energizing its community life.

In my first post about Christian women and their role in the family, I mentioned the aspect of later talking about Christian women's role in the Church--big "C".

We've been homeschooling our children for many years now.  As with most homeschool parents, the first few years, you seek out others who are taking this same path of education at home to get support, guidance, and advice on this journey.

The SchoolRun Learning Journey

The SchoolRun Learning Journey is for Primary School Students who receive instruction at home.  While this program can be used as a supplement for parents who send their children out-of-the-home for school, it can also be used as a curriculum addition to any homeschooling program.

We have been homeschooling for 9 years.  While my curriculum and methods have varied from year to year, one thing has remained consistent: considering the cost of supplements for my student’s weekly lessons.

Anyone who has homeschooled knows that choosing a curriculum is tricky at times.  Often, the curriculum that you—the teacher—enjoys using, your students often hate, and vice versa.  To alleviate the pain involved in this process, I always have ‘free’ curriculum options to supplement and/or replace curriculum mid-year when the teacher or students can’t handle the already-purchased subject curriculum.

Falling Down a Rabbit Hole

Falling Down a Rabbit Hole

When I produce a documentary, I like to do all the research myself.
The problem I faced with Genesis, however, is that I wasn’t researching just one subject; I was researching thirty. They included complex topics such as stratigraphy, baraminology, hermeneutics, genetics, and cosmology (to name a few). There’s a good reason experts have PhD’s in a single area: when you dive into these subjects, it’s like falling down a rabbit hole.
But you can learn a lot by jumping in and looking around.
That’s one of my take-away’s from this project: if you truly want to understand these subjects, you have to roll up your sleeves and jump in. The world God created is impossibly complex, and most scientists will admit they only understand a fraction of it. But you can understand part of it. You just have to start somewhere.
Here are 10 books I found extremely helpful in my ‘falling’ process...

Coping Through Suffering and Sorrow as a Christian

Sadly, I was unable to say goodbye to my step-mother in person before she passed away.

While I had recently spoken to her on the phone, in preparation for my trip to be with her in California, it wasn't enough.  I desperately wanted to make it to her in person, hold her, hug her, and remind her how much I love her before her body gave out to the illness.

It was not to be.  She did not make it through the night last night.  May God bless her soul and hold her tightly until we join her in Heaven.

For all of us dealing with some form of loss, KNOW that you have JESUS.

How One President Tried to Make Spelling Easier
In 1906, U.S. President Teddy Roosevelt tried to get the government to simplify the spelling of 300 common English words. However, this didn't go over well with Congress or the public. Here’s what went wrong.
