Do you “RISK”
Game Night with your Family? Are you worried there will be fighting? Do you fear they will get bored, and you will
be left sitting at the table, all alone?
Proverbs 22:6 NIV
6 Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they
are old they will not turn from it.
Game Night is the perfect
activity to teach children—and remind yourself—about playing fairly, taking
turns, not bragging, encouraging a weaker player, and working together to set
up and take down the game. While our
competitive nature to win may come out, it will all be in ‘good fun’ as long as
we play with humbleness and not diminish the others at the table.
I challenge you to
try to set up a family Game Night, of at least one board game, at least once a
month, and see just how much fun you can have playing together.

So...what happens when Mom goes
away for the evening???
Fast Food—sure, that is to be expected...
Stocking the freezer with ice
cream—sure, why not...
A Shrek movie
marathon—OK, I can see that...
But then it
happens.
Dad,
unceremoniously, walks over to the game closet—yes, we have a whole closet full
of games—and he studies the stack. I can see it now...
"Hmmm," he thinks to
himself, "How do I get that game out without toppling everything?"
Somehow he
does, and there it is, the Game of RISK!
The
challenge is on now. Mom is gone, and it is time for Dad and the kids try their best to conquer
the world through GLOBAL
DOMINATION! Hey, why not?
Of course,
Dad plays to win. The kids play for fun.
Dad hasn't
quite grasped the idea of playing kindly when playing children who are not even
teenagers yet, and so, ultimately, he wins.
Does this
bring sadness to their little hearts?
Do tears
roll down their plump, freckled cheeks?
NO WAY!
This was a
game of GLOBAL DOMINATION that lasted
for TWO days, and despite the ups and downs of battle, the family thinks fondly
on the event, excited to tell Mom all about their conquests in the Game of
RISK!
